Frequently Asked Questions

- What if I am short on credits?
- Then, FOCUS is for you. Focus on Completing Undergraduate Studies (FOCUS) courses are an ideal way for you to earn credit to gain acceptance into our degree-completion programs.
- What is FOCUS?
- FOCUS courses are offered in an accelerated format, conveniently meeting one or two nights a week. With FOCUS, you can earn the general education requirements, general education electives and free electives you need to graduate from NLU.
- How does it work?
- FOCUS classes are not traditional; lecture is limited and student-to-student, teacher-to-student exchange is preferred. You're expected to take an active role in class discussions and assignments and relate your personal experiences to these assignments. A significant amount of writing is a requirement.
- Where do I register for FOCUS classes?
- You may view online the course schedules as well as register for FOCUS classes.
- How else can I earn credit?
- With NLU's Prior Learning Assessment (PLA), you may qualify for college credit in three ways: credit by proficiency (personal and professional life experience), credit by exam (AP, ACT-PEP, CLEP or DANTES Subject Standardized Tests), or credit by portfolio (essays and other assignments as permitted by the department).
