Biology (B.A.)
Program Description:
Global warming. Energy. Epidemics. Gene therapy. Endangered species.
There has never been a better time to study biology. NLU faculty will guide you through the scientific concepts and give you the tools to understand the current hot topics and be ready for the next ones.
How You Will Learn:
NLU is nationally ranked by U.S. News and World Report for offering small classes—and so nearly all of your biology classes will have a maximum enrollment of 20. Laboratory work is tightly integrated into the curriculum, along with lectures and discussion classes, giving you the opportunity to apply theoretical concepts in hands-on learning activities. Field and research courses give you even more chances to broaden your knowledge of this exciting field.
The NLU biology program can also be taken as part of B.A.-M.A.T. for Secondary Education. Please see the M.A.T. graduate program description for more information.
What You Will Learn:
- A broader understanding of general biological concepts, zoology, botany and genetics.
- A broad understanding of the physical sciences (chemistry and physics) and how they provide the foundation for a modern molecular approach to biology.
- An increased awareness of ecology and conservation principles.
- How to gain effective presentation, written and oral communication skills.
Where You Can Take the Program:
At NLU’s campus in Skokie (North Shore). Science classes are also offered at the NLU campuses in Chicago, Lisle and Wheeling.
