Interdisciplinary Studies in Curriculum & Instruction (M.Ed.)
Program Description:
The NLU graduate program in Interdisciplinary Studies in Curriculum and Instruction is designed for those of you who are community educators, as well as certified, highly motivated K-12 teachers who want to deepen your understanding of teaching and learning and expand your professional knowledge for career advancement. Our integrated, innovative course of study allows you to choose your area of emphasis among such areas as cultural diversity, human development, group process, and curriculum and instruction.
How You Will Learn:
Interdisciplinary Studies in Curriculum and Instruction is taught using a cohort model, which means you will go through the program with the same group of 12-20 students. NLU graduates report that they like the cohort model because of the support and friendships provided by fellow students throughout the program. These programs are also offered online, in a blended format of online and classroom instruction, and in a traditional classroom setting. Additional majors available in IDS Action Research and Assessment (IDS-ARA) and IDS National Board Certification (IDS-NBC).
What You Will Learn:
- How to conduct action research in your own classroom or community setting.
- How to develop classroom community and effective learning environments.
- How to examine and improve your own teaching by conducting research in your classroom.
- How to think critically and analytically about the social and political contexts of education.
- How to incorporate the complexities of diversity in our culture and our classrooms into the learning community.
- How to act as an agent for positive change.
