Counseling and Human Services

Program Description:

As our society becomes high-tech, the need for a greater understanding of how we relate to each other as human beings is increasing. So are the support services necessary to help many of us deal with the complexities and challenges of living in today’s fast-paced world.

The NLU graduate program in Counseling is designed for those of you who want a stronger foundation in counseling and a better understanding of the issues facing today’s modern human services organizations and schools. You can major in either community or school counseling.

How You Will Learn:

The NLU graduate program in Counseling is taught using a cohort model, which means you will go through the program with the same group of 18 students. NLU graduates like the cohort model because of the support and friendships provided by their fellow students throughout the program.

What You Will Learn:

  • How to use the fundamentals of counseling.
  • How to apply various counseling theories and techniques in the workplace.
  • How to analyze and evaluate motivations and behaviors.
  • How an eclectic philosophy and a variety of counseling skills can be an advantage in the workplace.
  • Preparation to sit for the State of Illinois LPC test.

Where You Can Take the Program:

At NLU campuses in Chicago, Elgin, Lisle, Skokie (North Shore) and Wheeling.
