Senate Highlights
August 16, 2006

  • In his report the Senate chair indicated that the meeting of the Faculty Association will take place on the first morning of the Fall Connection. Included on the agenda will be a panel addressing the implications of the Academic Quality Improvement Program (AQIP). The university is in the process of applying for membership in AQIP. Panelists will include representatives of faculty, the Provost’s office, and the college deans.

  • The Provost, Kathy Tooredman, and Senator Gerry Becker reported on the status of revisions to the Severance Policy. It is hoped that a final consensus document for review by the Senate will be finalized next week.

  • The Senate Plan for 2006-2007, including charges for each Senate committee, was approved. This plan will be posted on the Senate web site and the charges will be sent to committee chairs.

  • The Provost reported that a number of sub-committees were being set up and that CMB faculty will be involved in developing a business plan for the college and addressing other issues raised by the Board of Trustees.

  • The Deputy Provost, George Litman, reminded us that the Fall Connection is scheduled for September 7-8. Thursday morning is devoted to the President’s and Provost’s welcome and comments, the Faculty Excellence awards, and the meeting of the Faculty Association. The afternoon will be parallel workshops, ending with a presentation of “An afternoon with Elizabeth Harrison”—a history of NLU based on her letters. A Board reception for faculty will be followed by dinner. Additional workshops are scheduled for Friday morning and the afternoon is reserved for college and library meetings.
