3. Service to the Institution

2008 Participation in the new “Europe and Asia” excellence cluster research
events at the Univ. of Heidelberg enabled me to introduce
internationally renowned scholars to NLU’s work
2008 Initiating the start of cooperative communication between NLU library
And some Univ. of Heidelberg library staff
2008 invited, and introduced, by the mayor of Heidelberg to open the
this year’s day festival celebrating the city. I spoke briefly and performed
my song “In Heidelberg” The press concerning this event included
mention of NLU and Univ. of Heidelberg cooperation. (Jan. 13th)
2007 Actively engaged in various events at the Chicago Humanities
Festival and received positive notice from both the director and the head
of the board of directors who spoke of needing now to get NLU
Again more involved in CHF next year. ((late Oct.-early Nov.)
2007 Represented NLU by having the honor to present a lecture (one of
only two given) celebrating the 200th anniversary of the founding of
the pedagogical seminar at the University of Heidelberg (April 24th)
2006-present Initiate and promote program of cooperation between NLU and the Univ.
of Heidelberg around critical media literacy topics (interdepartmental,
intercollege and interdisciplinary endeavor)
2006 Represented NLU at the inauguration of Ronald Grimes in the first chair
to be established at any university for ritual studies. (April 27th Nijmegen
Holland)
2005 Recipient of the NLU Service Award
2004 Closing the Heidelberg Center in a way that kept doors open for future European NLU involvement while meeting the needs of current and former students
2003-2004 Respectful Advocacy for the Heidelberg Center with the UPG and Senate
2002-present Promoted NLU involvement in a prestigious long-term interdisciplinary project on Ritual Dynamics with Department of Medical Psychology at the University of Heidelberg
2001-2004 Planned annual 3-day conferences for NLU Students and German education community with the Academy for political Education in Tutzing
1998 Helped a group of students and scholars from University of Bamberg to include NLU’s Best Practice and Dem Schools as the U.S. example in their itinerary for visiting innovative schools in Holland, Canada and the U.S.
1996-present Academic Program Coordinator at Heidelberg International Center and all that entails, particularly helping create a face-to-face and virtual community
1995-present Building up a library at the Heidelberg Center without costing the University extra funds.
1991-present Extensive work in building connections NLU and the University of Heidelberg and also the Teacher Training College (Paedagogische Hochschule). Arranging visits by Heidelberg University Education students to our Heidelberg Center.

Prevention in Schools-RISA Ritual and Salutogenese
-Consulting with Barton-upon Humber Civic Society England about historical school building preservation and the establishment of a school museum in the Queen Street School building planned by Samuel Wilderspin School

4.5 Grants and Contracts


2007- Worked with colleagues at the Univ. of Heidelberg and at Radboud University in Holland to help conceive of and then receive a two year preliminary grant for work on the topic of Media, Ritual and Conflict
2001-present Helped get a long –term interdisciplinary project on Ritual Dynamic to be funded by the German Research Foundation for various departments at the Univ. of Heidelberg. Participated in and critiqued the dress rehearsal for external examiners review, reviewed written proposal for Dept of Med. Psych. As a full voting member of the research area I have also engaged in our regular activities as well as contributing when grant renewal site visits were held (2005). At the present this research group constitutes the largest group of scholars in the world researching on ritual dynamics
