Applications are reviewed by a faculty committee twice a year, in October and in January. All application documents, including the GRE scores, must be received by the Graduate Admissions Office by the October 15 and January 15 application deadlines.
Graduates of the School Psychology program are eligible to obtain the Type 73 School Services Personnel Certificate in School Psychology required by the State of Illinois. The certificate allows graduates to apply for school psychologist positions in public or private school settings. Students obtaining the Ed.D. degree may also seek positions in higher education. Graduates are also eligible to sit for the Nationally Certified School Psychologist (NCSP) examination administered by the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP)
SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGY TYPE 73 CERTIFICATION
School Psychology Type 73 Certification is a three-year full-time (or part-time within six years) program which is broken into two degrees (M.Ed. in Educational Psychology and Ed.S. in School Psychology). Two degrees reflect the additional hours needed for certification. Both degrees (M.Ed. and Ed.S.) are needed to become a certified school psychologist.
Those already holding a Master’s degree in any field apply directly to the Ed.S. part of the program. Upon admission there will be an automatic transcript review at the time the Study Plan is written. Coursework already taken from the M.Ed. will be noted, and any course not already taken will be added to the student’s Ed.S. program.
PREREQUISITE TO PROGRAM
One (1) graduate level (2-3 hours) course in human development which will be added to a student’s program if not completed prior to admission.

Applicants selected for the second part of the admissions process will be called for an interview.
Those who attend the M.Ed. in the National-Louis School Psychology Program will apply to the Ed.S. Program through the Program, and should contact the School Psychology Office or their advisors regarding the procedure.
ADMISSION - ED.S. IN SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGY
(FOR THOSE APPLYING TO THE PROGRAM WHO ALREADY HOLD A MASTER’S DEGREE)
2 years = 1 year coursework + research project + 1 year Internship.
Since School Psychology is a certification program, a transcript review will automatically be completed with the Study Plan.
Any course from the M.Ed. which has not been completed will be added to the Ed.S. program (see green certification sheet).

A transcript review will be conducted for students admitted to the Ed.S. degree program at the time the program Plan of Study is written. Courses required for certification and not included in the master’s degree program will be added to the Ed.S. study plan.
INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

PRE-ADMISSION TRANSCRIPT REVIEWS
Pre-admission transcript reviews may be requested and submitted to the School Psychology program coordinator. A fee of $250 will be charged for this credit review service. Students who apply and are admitted to Educational Psychology/School Psychology may have this fee credited to their account.

IMPORTANT:

- School Psychology is an Open Enrollment Program for admitted students.
- Students may take the program full/part time .
OBSERVATION PRACTICUM HOURS
Observation hours must be completed during the day and during school hours. If you are going through the program while you are working full time, you need to arrange time to complete these observation hours. Students who work full-time during the day and attend classes in the evening often use personal, sick and/or vacation time in order to achieve this requirement.
CLINICAL PRACTICUM HOURS THROUGH THE CENTER FOR LEARNING
The Center for Learning is a University-based training clinic which provides students with opportunities for practical experiences in assessment, counseling, and consultation. Graduate students have opportunities to work with children, families, and adults under the supervision of faculty and staff.
SUCCESSFUL GRADUATES WILL EARN:
Students admitted to the Educational Psychology/School Psychology programs at the completion of their undergraduate studies will earn the M.Ed. degree in Human Learning and Development on the way to earning the Ed.S. degree in School Psychology. Upon completion of all program requirements including the academic year-long internship, the research project, and earning a passing score on the School Psychology Content Area examination, students will be recommended for the Type 73 certificate in School Psychology awarded by the Illinois State Board of Education.
RESIDENCY POLICIES
Students may attend the School Psychology certification program on a full- or part-time basis. A full-time course of study in School Psychology consists of two years (including summers) of course work and practica and one academic-year-long, full-time internship. Students enrolling in part-time studies complete their course work in three to four years prior to undertaking an academic year, full-time internship. All students work closely with their advisors to design an approved course sequence in accordance with guidelines provided in the School Psychology handbook.
RETENTION POLICIES
Students who receive two or more " C " or lower grades will be dropped from the program. Students may appeal such decisions to the Graduate Admission and Retention Council.
