I was born and raised in the lake View community of Chicago, however, my parents assure me that I was conceived in San German, Puerto Rico. I attended Chicago Public Schools from head start all the way through the 12th grade. I am an amateur viola player and an avid fan of Star Trek...(all of them). I studied in Mexico City for a summer, and I studied and worked in Barcelona, Spain for a year. After suffering through a semester of law-school, I took a part time position as a reading teacher at the Latino Youth Alternative High School. I wanted to work there for one year so that I could pay off my student loan and return to law-school, however, I loved teaching so much that I stayed for the next six years.
Currently, I teach at the Roberto Clemente Community Academy; a public school in Chicago's Humboldt Park area. I am also a member of the Puerto Rican Cultural Center of Chicago, which is an umbrella organization for several different programs, some of which have an adult education focus. One program in which I am involved at the moment is Vida/SIDA, (Life/AIDS). This is a not for profit, free alternative health clinic for people with AIDS. I deal with the education and prevention aspects of the program.
