I am undeniably a mid-westerner as I was born and raised in Chicagoland. During my travels (even abroad) people will ask me if I am from Chicago. I do not know how they know. But to me being from Chicago is not such a bad thing (I am slightly biased here).
I received my Bachelor's degree from Northern Illinois University (NIU). While at NIU, I studied rehabilitation counseling, psychology, communicative disorders, and American Sign Language.
I completed my Master's degree in Human Resource Management and Development from National-Louis University. I supplemented my studies with courses in adult education and training. For instance, this past summer I completed the Chicago Chapter of the American Society of Training and Development's (ASTD) Training Institute.
I have worked with adults for eight years in settings ranging from educational to social service. The work I did for a demonstration project in association with NIU called the CANDU Project allowed me to work with adults on many levels and in varying roles. I worked with parents of at-risk teens, trained respite workers that in turn worked directly with the teens, and I shared our collaborative, community-based model with other professionals and organizations.
Currently, I work for National-Louis University in the National College of Education's Doctoral Program office. I have learned much about what it takes to succeed on the doctoral level through my work with doctoral faculty and students.
On a more personal note, I enjoy reading, writing, crafting, traveling, and volunteering (especially for Canine Companions for Independence). I was recently married (Sweetest Day, October of 1999) and am now a first-time homeowner. The past year has been very exciting and educational!
